Typhoon Ondoy (Ketsana)- Philippines

The call went home to the Philippines on Sunday night. Everyone in our family is wet, but fine. My sister-in-law had to move my father in-law's bed from the leaking (more like pouring) roof, but that was about the worst thing. They are in Bulacan Province, close to the epicenter of the Typhoon, but live on a higher elevation. A niece of mine was in Manila, and we haven't heard from her. So please, offer a thought and a prayer for the beautiful people of the Philippines, who have a long tradition of supporting the United States.

Update 9/29/2009 12:30 CST: I just received an e-mail from an aid worker encouraging people to urgently donate money through the United Nations World Food Program. The United Nations World Food Programme is based in Rome, Italy.

Also, I just found the Philippines Red Cross/Red Crescent.

At our church council meeting last night, they were comparing the disaster to Katrina. I explained that is not really an accurate comparison. Manila is much more dense than New Orleans. Manila population density of 43,079 people per km². New Orleans population density is 1,036.4 people per km²

Gawad Kalinga foundation has launched its way to help those families that were affected by the recent catastrophe caused by Typhoon Ondoy. They have a Ketsana Relief page from which we can give our share to help the victims.
